A journalist has been arrested and charged with
treason for publishing an article suggesting that Burundi's military was
not capable of defending the country against terrorist attacks, Human

Burundi: Police Officers Stoned To Death
Two policemen suspected of theft were stoned to death
by angry villagers in the eastern province of Ruyigi, the local
authorities said Monday. When the residents of Muhindo village found the
policemen in hiding on Sunday, they came under fire from one of them, a
local official said. The villagers retaliated by stoning the officers
to death. A national police spokesman, Pierre Chanel Ntarabaganyi, later
thanked the mob ''for getting involved in maintaining public order.''
